This old doll was given to me by an Uncle-in-law, it belonged to my Aunt from Canada who passed away many years ago & he didn't know much about it, except she had it when she was a little girl. She was born in the late 20's or early 30's, but it may have been given to her by my grandma or great grandma who have also passed on.
The doll is about 1.5' long, has a straw stuffed body in cotton material. It feels like her limbs & head are made of wood, with glass eyes that shut when payed down, and soft real like hair. Her clothes are handmade cotton. There are no markings that I can see to identify who made it.
Any insight into its age or origin would be appreciated. Thank you.
She dates 1930's-40's She is a composition head and limb doll with mohair wig . I assume by description her torso is cloth ? Hard to tell who made her without any markings . Likely a Canada Co since no company name or country of origin marked on her . The composition does not hold up well if wet or damp and cracks and also lifts paint . Keep her in a dry place not to hot or cold either , these dolls can be repaired but cost might out way the value of her . Very nice
Yes, her body is white cotton stuffed with a harder material, almost feels like straw. I hid her away for years, it freaks out my husband - ha! But today I took her out & put her in the china cabinet.
Thank you kindly Manikin for your insight and advice.
Nothing freaky about her :-) She was well loved by a little girl .
