Here are just a few of my finds from the latest dig. Three big bottles in pic one are: green one "Sweeney's Bottling Company, Middletown NY" soda (engraved near the base), clear one-"Costa" Newburgh NY, and the brown one i think is a no name beer bottle.
The collection on pic 3 is miscellaneous: "Nehi", Pepsi, Chug-A-Mug beer, Anchor Hocking cup, 7 UP, etc. Not sure what the blue glass stick is...

Question...the bottle i'm holding in pic 4 as well as there are 2 of them in pic 3- i was finding a multitude of those bottles with various caps- Coca-Cola, Pepsil, Diet Pesi, etc. While the caps have the company's name preserved, the bottle itself is plain and uninspiring and exactly the same for all these beverages. Is it worth keeping them or even taking them from a dump site or it's basically a waste of my precious real estate? Thanks!

AnnaB, those bottles probably came with paper or styrofoam labels on them. With out the labels I personally would put them in the recycle bin. If you find more, just leave them there. I love bottles and have a massive collection. Thanx for sharin!

Thank you, Iggy, i had a feeling about that. I'm not really good with newer bottles. Thank goodness, that will save me hours of labor washing them and gallons of water LOL

      Pic 2 bottle 1 Owen-Illinois 1948. Bottle 3 Glesnshaw 1967.
The screw-top Dr. Pepper is interesting. I've never seen such a nice Dug Pepsi ACL.
The art-deco (they made them pretty late from what I've seen) Nehi is very nice, and is that a Vaseline glass cup?

I keep the caps. Not sure why, though, as I have few screw-tops.
      Cute mouse.

I really like the Nehi and Dr. Pepper, I assume they are no deposit/ no return bottles. Thanks for sharing

Thank you, Spirit. I thought Owens was 1948, too. I recently made an effort to study how to date that company :) Haven't gotten to other marks yet, so thank you for Glenshaw id. Any thoughts about the beer bottle?

Well, you've never seen such nice dug out ACLs before because they were not dug out LOL these ones stand in for the exact same ones i did dig out that are currently pretty dirty, but you told me i have to wait a whole month before washing them! I dont think though that they will look as nice after washing either, because they have rust stains in all the wrong places, aka on the labels. Any idea how to deal with that issue?

The cup...i don't know if it's considered Vaseline. It's marked Ancor Fire King, i looked it up and i think it's from the "Jade" line or something like this.
      Ok, i'll keep the caps...

Yes, the mouse came home in my car trunk. When i saw it i'm sure the whole town heard me scream, but then we became friends and i let it out into the woods :-)

Thoughts: It's still wet inside. LOL. Might not be beer (shape is not typical), and I cannot see everything clearly on it.

^ "Thread" for you to read.^ The main product comes in powder and liquid. Available at many places, including some supermarkets.
I myself have never tried it or other listed methods.

Grotesque time: At where I volunteer, mice live under many things. The wolves like to play with them, often severing body parts and eating portions, before leaving them for us to clean up.
Once I found 4 in one foot of each other.

You could always recycle all the glass you dig and do not want.

Even if I know nothing in bottles I absolutely love your gorgeous first pic!
And the mouse face peeping out in the last one is so precious :-D

Bottle-bud, thank you for your nice comment and appreciation. Dr. Pepper has "One Way Bottle - Not for Refill" on it, "Nehi" is embossed with "Poughkeepsie, NY".

Spirit, very funny =) I don't know why they take forever to dry inside...weeks! Thanks for the link, sounds like a miracle liquid. Why haven't you tried it?
Yes, i wish i could recycle all the glass and plastic from the landfills, there's so much of it, it's just sad.

Kyra, thank you! This is actually how i got into glass collecting. Years ago i did photography and put a few empty modern bottles of various colors on a windowsill to photograph. The effect from the light playing with colors and glass was so mesmerizing that i started collecting various colored bottles for window display until i realized there's so much more to it, that some of them actually have histories and personalities! You are bitten by a jewelry bug and i'm bitten by a bottle bug lol The mouse says hello to Charlie ;)

Water sticks to glass, and there is only a small hole to escape through. (I guess on the last part. LOL.)
I use a wire wrapped in paper towel to dry the inside, which also helps get it a little cleaner sometimes.

      I don't clean ACLs much.
For example, this one looks the same as it did in this photo a year and a half(?) ago:
      https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Us_O6yJ8Nj0/VShEohGm0II/AAAAAAAAhWk/SNrSO1-5djkjuvPN2LKmigd95G-23mWZg/w769-h577-no/Updates%2B096.JPG
The bottle, photographed by my old camera, is actually clear with yellow and white ACL. LOL.

My mom yells at me for not bringing back all the glass from my digs. She's never seen any of my sites except in pics, so she cannot understand that a backpack and one car trunk won't do.
When I began, in the lake, I brought out bags and bags of glass every time. I'd leave them on shore, as there are no garbages, and someone else would dispose of them.

What's beside the white face cream jar and the nehi ?
    11. AnnaB AnnaB, 9 years ago
Spirit, maybe your mom could go on one of the trips with you. Wonder what she'd think of that...

Roy, there are 3 milk glass Ball and Mason jar cap inserts, and a green Fire King cup with a "bent" cobalt glass stick in it (i have no idea what it is though:)

      Ok thanks :)

She badly damaged one knee when she fell in a hole someone covered up with a blanket and dirt years ago. I was young, so I don't know how the lawsuit went. But the surgery was only minorly successful. She still lacks the fluids or something like that in that knee.
Last month she tore her Acute Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in the other knee in which multi-thousand-dollar surgery is something we'd like to avoid, so she'll see a specialist next week.
So.... she's not going very far.
    14. SpiritBear, 9 years ago
      Anterior, not acute.
    15. AnnaB AnnaB, 9 years ago
i'm so sorry to hear that...i hope she finds a great specialist who can help her recover and heal to the fullest extent and avoid the expensive surgery. Best wishes to her.

Things like these always make me wonder what everyone else has on their minds, going on in their lives, etc. No one ever has any idea unless someone makes it known.

She seems to have a positive attitude and much less pain than expected. So we can always thank God for that.

I think the royal blue one on the extreme bottom left may be a vicks bottle. Before all the plastic took over. Love the pepsi ones and that white jar may be my favourite. Too bad its almost impossible to dig up ones with caps. Nice collection there, it must give you great excitement to display your finds, impossible to get a collection like that at a store now. Cute funny 4th pic. Love this post !
    18. AnnaB AnnaB, 9 years ago
Yes, Spirit, you are right about that. Others' minds are always a mystery.
Positive attitude heals better than any prescribed remedies. I'm sure your support and care make a huge difference too.
    19. AnnaB AnnaB, 9 years ago
Phil, thank you for your kind comment and appreciation, it's always a pleasure to see you stop by. Yes, the blue one is a Vicks, i found a bunch of them in various sizes. I did find one white jar with a cap, a shampoo of some sort, but haven't posted it yet. It sure is a great excitement to go on a treasure hunt, you never know what you're gonna find! It sound like you miss doing it =)
    20. PhilDMorris PhilDMorris, 9 years ago
Yes AnnaB, I did it since I was about 12, and stopped probably when I was 20. Never thought about it, but I do miss it.
