So this lovely little jar confounds me. 9" x 7", no marks that I could find. It's hand painted with a lovely bird on the lid and delicate flowers on the body. Raised ribs radiate out all over and hobnails around the opening. Thorn handle, beehive shape. So altogether a naturalistic piece. The yellow glaze is drippy, you can see little drips all over. Damaged, there's a fissure on the body and a chip inside the lid. It's too Asian not to be Asian, but is it Chinese or Japanese, what era, who made it, does anyone have more of a clue than clueless me? I hope you enjoyed seeing this jar, and thanks for looking.
MYSTERY PARTLY SOLVED: kyratango helped to identify the form of the covered jar as a Japanese temple bell! Thanks, kyratango, for that help, it moves me in the right direction, surely. I need to do further research as to maker, era, and perhaps uses for this pretty jar. :)
The raised decoration is not moriage, so a molded piece is all that's left. A wild guess is Japanese, but it's so far out of mainstream I don't know where to look. Hopefully someone who knows the piece or the style will come along.
Sorry I couldn't help.
It is pretty Katherine

So beautiful! Love this yellow with the peonies!
It is modelled from a Japanese temple bell:

This as gorgeous Katherine. I hope you find out more about it.
Thanks so much for your compliment, Karen, greatly appreciated coming from you. It appears I've hit quite a dry well on this one, unfortunately. May be one of those things that I'll come across in time. :)
