I spotted this bowl in a junk shop and I liked it immediately. Usually I'm not interested in modern pottery, but this one was just too pretty in my eyes to leave it there. It has a D&B mark on the base, so it was easy to identify it. However I can't date the decade when it was made. I found out it was made before 1980 because from this date onwards the full name was used on their marks.
Dumler & Breiden company was founded in 1883. They were one of the leading pottery companies in Western Germany during the 1950s and 60s. D&B produced a wide range of pottery of good quality until 1992, when the factory closed its gates.
Marks are nearly always impressed: the crossed swords with DB, form and size number and the word Germany.
Nice!!!
I heard from someone,...sometime ago,...that when it says only Germany,...it means pre WW2.
Very good share of info Amatoor. :) !
Hi. I was hoping for this when I bought it - to find out the bowl is at least 70 years old. But I read somewhere this particular company always signed its ware with 'Germany', never West Germany - even in the second half of 20th century.
Thanks folks for the comments and love :)
That is right martika it is mid century, part of duemler breiden's so named terra series
Thanks getthatmonkey. :)
D&B are one of my favourite German pottery companies. I like the way they used different browns and relied a lot on texture. It's a really nice bowl Martika.
Thanks racer4four for your nice comment :)
