Looked up to the top shelf and saw this thing that reminded me of Jar-Jar Binks at the local thrift yesterday. I liked the roses and carried it home for the $3.50 half off price. From the Art Deco era. circa 1920-1930, it is often referred to as "alienware" because of the bizarre color combinations, shapes and glazes. This piece has a panel of black embossed rose blossoms on the front with the branches and leaves within the arch handles. The remainder of the vase is decorated with a mottled orange lustre glaze and marked on the bottom indicating it was made in Czechoslovakia. With its unusual shape it took me a mere 2 minutes to determine I had found a Bohemian Crackle Glaze Ditmar Urbach ALIENWARE Vase # 8137. It fits right in with my orange accent mid century modern and newly discovered west german pottery.
Well, that's different! :-)))
The second pic reminded me of the Great Sphinx in Egypt :))
There's been other Ditmar Urbach posted on CW, as I recall, this is an interesting piece. :)
