I think this one has seen it's day. Cleaning ruins coins as far as collectors are concerned. If you find any more coins, leave them in "as found" condition.

This will stay with me, not planning to sell.
was completely black to where you couldn't see any details.
Now it will go in my little collection of coins.

Bonnie, I really don't think cleaning this one hurt it's value. LOL . Rough life that !

Olive Oil is never a good idea.

Boiling 3% USP (standard stuff from the store) Hydrogen Peroxide is the only ''safe'' option as it removes dirt, grime, sometimes corrosion, but not the metal layers.

it's okay I found this in some change in the bottom of purse....
it's still cool to have and display

The oldest coin I've found in circulation was an 1890 penny from change given to me at the bank.

They're still in circulation. Just very rarely seen.
Sometimes people will re-circulate them. I used to have a large collection of 1960s-1980s half-dollars. About half went back to circulation.

I think I have some Indian Head pennies but I don't recall them being that old. Very cool. I'm going to have to go for a dig. LOL
