The consensus is that these are carved ivory horses. Now, to figure out the name carved on the bottom hoof of the lighter colored horse...

    Thanks for looking!

Never heard of a "ring" coming from ivory or bone. Now Bonnie. Which ring were you wearing, on which finger of which hand & was this soon after eating ? LOL !
    3. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 9 years ago
LOL @ blunder~! I have more rings than the local jewelry store.

Not sure if it is writing on the hoof or part of the grain... MYSTERY! ;-))

When I zoom in on the first picture, I can see "CM" on the inner hind leg of the left horse. Do you see that Bonnie or are my eyes deceiving me?

I see rings coming from the belly of the horse in your second picture, indicative of ivory and not bone, so that may be a clue.

How big are these two beauties?

Hi Jkcroslin - I think it's just matrixing. The only signature I found is on the rear hoof. I took better ( I hope) photos and will put them up shortly.
I agree that it is ivory, so that part of the mystery is solved. :-)))

These horse are small, about 2 inches high and 2 1/2 inches from nose to the edge of the tail.

Have you tried the hot pin test ?
    9. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 9 years ago
      blunder - nope, don't want to do that. The hot pin test would only tell me what it's not - not necessarily what it is. :-}}}}

These horses are cold to the touch, like stone, but extremely smooth. General consensus is that it's ivory according to the rings pattern seen on the horses, so I'm going with that.

Still bothered about the name on the hoof, so I posted new photos here. Take a squint and tell me what you think.

      :-)))

I squinted every whichaway for quite a while and can't make out what it says, lol. I also searched for a matching horse on Google, no dice. Alls I can tell you is these are beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, lucky lucky girl!! :)
    13. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 9 years ago
blunder - gonna send you away with a"Do Not Return To Sender" stamp on your behind....ROTFL! :-)))

Mudwoman - that's exactly what I see. I just can't make sense of it when I Google that or variations of that.....*sigh*
    15. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 9 years ago
Mudwoman - if I look at it another way, it looks like the cross bar on the H is extended through a Z, making like a European crossed Z. You have to look at it a certain way in the photo to see the form of the Z.

      Gah! lol...
