This is my first in a collection I am starting I thought it was very unique. I was told it was vintage leviton but there is nothing on the lamp just where the shade attaches maybe somebody can help with its history

You have a lamp with "Leviton" electrical fittings. That's why you can see their name on (I would think) the light socket/bulb socket. You can do an image search for 'Leviton Vintage Lamps' - and there is lots to see. I just don't think they made the base of your lamp.

I would agree Leviton is on most lamp bulbs. I would find a new dealer as your dealer is called a shyster. He lied to you. This is a rather modern lamp. I hope it was cheap as it hardly rates as a collectible. What you really need right now is a library where they have many books. BEFORE you buy you should learn about the field you are interested in. Even the internet would be of help. I studied bronzes and statues a long time before I started buying and even I needed more training at the time, though I was lucky and made money on what I bought when I moved and had to sell some. If you found a book on statues like the 4 volume set by Peter Berman. The Abage Encyclopedia of Bronzes 1800 to 1930. Peter also noticed some good newer ones being made in the late 1970's as they had found the old molds and a company in NYC was making some wonderful spelter statues that were called French Bronze which sometimes is spelter. One really has to know their metals if they want the real bronzes. Also if you study lamps or statue lamps on ebay it can be a good place to start.
