I found this "Head on a stick" face jug. Small in size...approx. 3 1/2 " x 3" attached to an old bamboo stick. Has a handmade bracelet (could be made out of vines or root); I think it may be a birth amulet. I knew a "free" man (long deceased) born on a plantation that wore one similar to this until his death. I believe the key was added later; maybe belonged to a person in charge of a plantation (pantry key or something) It has a very faint rattle effect to it when shaken....nothing is broken. There is a chip at the bottom of the face (neck area) that looks to have been broken off at some point and reglued back on the stick. Could this belong to the medicine man or nganga of the enslaved group during slavery times? I really would like someone to shed some light on this item! PLEASE HELP!
