Great detail is that a jelly fish? Reminds me of the beach I swam in as a kid.

If it the same artist he was a muralist who painted scenes of the social climate before the war. He did covers for scientific magazines and later landscapes. This would be probably later in his career.

This was a print that was a mailaway offer from something like Woman's Weekly (in the UK - so not sure which magazine it would have been in the US) in the late 50's, early 60's. My parents bought one and the doctor and my dad were discussing painting this during my birth at home (1962)!! Their copy long deteriorated and I have found and given them a framed copy of the original magazine offer which included an identifying annotation of all the items on the shore! I also bought myself a full copy of it and have it framed in my living room. there is something quite special about it - you can get lost in it. JLH was a Californian artist ( San Francisco Bay) - did lots of social art in the early 20th Century.
