Heckert/Max Rade-Type Poppy Kutrolf

Although I'm a big Heckert collector, and have cataloged hundreds of their pieces, I'd never seen this piece before. Although it's not marked, it was offered as having been designed by Max Rade for Heckert. I purchased it because I collect drinking vessels, and I like poppies (plus, I have another poppy piece that I wanted to compare it to - it turned out to not be by the same designer).

I received the piece today. What an awesome piece it is. The design is of Max Rade quality, although it could easily be attributed to Adolf Heyden Dr. Willy Meitzen, Friedrich Albert Cremer, or Oskar Jummel, as well.

This Kutrolf (the name assigned to several decanter forms, including this one) measures 16 cm H. (w/o stopper, 20.5 cm w/stopper) x 8.5 cm W. at the base, and weighs 572 gm.

Stefania Želasko, in her book, 'Fritz Heckert Kunstglas Industrie 1866-1923,' pictures a Kutrolf on p. 49, fig. 13. The Kutrolf pictured appears to have the identical stopper with the imbedded white glass rod twist design, and a blue tip. Likewise, both pieces also have a the same blue enameled lip, as on the tip of the stopper.

It's interesting to note that Ms. Želasko inserted a clipped image from the ca. 1880 Musterblatt (from the sheet on p. 273) which may be the poppy Kutrolf, to the left of fig. 13 (the second item), but it's difficult to tell as the image quality is poor. Flowers are discernible on the shoulders of the Kutrolf.

I've posted this under 'bohemian art glass' because there is no German art glass category. Contrary to popular belief, Heckert was never located in Bohemia.
