Newly Acquired Flat Weave Rug - Design is perplexing to me. Thoughts?

I bought this flat weave rug yesterday at my local thrift shop. Initially, I thought Native American but it has features that I don't quite get. Hopefully, someone can fill me in. It looks almost identical on both sides. Has a green open field and is 69" x 109." I'm almost positive it is wool (but possibly silk?). Did the burn test on a tiny thread and it shrivels, turns dark and crumbles. I couldn't detect the smell though because I used a match (all I had) and the sulfur from that was too overwhelming. In the last picture, do those look like ducks facing each other? The red dye is almost purplish. There is one small area were the red bled probably due to getting wet. There are variances of mainly the green color (abrash); however, due to being what I think is vegetable dye, there is all over color differences. It appears to be warp sharing (dovetail) at the color changes. It's in amazing shape because it wasn't used as a floor or area rug. Someone attached velcro to it and used it as a wall hanging.
