    i love this old bowl in Mexico a couple weeks ago. it appears to have been used as a molcajete for spices or something for quite a while. i've never seen this decoration before, but it reminds me of these English and American plates we excavated in Portsmouth, NH many years ago. those were from 1810-1830, although i forget what they were called. i think this is either spanish or mexican majolica/talavera.
