My husband called me while at work and told me he had a surprise for me. He gets home and whips this out from behind his back and tells me he fished it out of the dumpster at a job site he was working at. This lighting fixture is from the Occidental Petroleum building in Chicago. These are explosion proof lights manufactured by a company in Ohio. I want to utilize these but have not decided on how or where yet.

They are pretty tough. A large one I found had fallen from the wire in an old abandoned building. It was still intact. I'd have brought it home (I was on bike), had it not been a 30-lb light.

Wow that's pretty heavy. You should get a basket for your bike so you don't run into that problem again. I have no idea what I would have done in that situation.

My bike has (had, as the bike is very damaged) two baskets on the back.
Frontal baskets cannot take much weight in them before they impair steering. Back baskets will take as much as one can put before the rim greet the rubber.

I also wanted to bring back the 1950s-looking fan, several 'badges' on old machines from the '20s through '40s, one sign, and a number of vintage metal-badged fire-extinguishers.
But, alas, I merely found a room to dig in (dirt floor) and found antiques not seen in over a century.

I myself sometimes do dumpster diving. It can pay off. I only look in 'construction' (destruction is usually more appropriate) dumpsters, though.
      Good job your husband did.

Thank you!!! I was actually very proud of him for going in and getting it. I want to dumpster dive so bad but not sure of the laws here in Illinois. What did you find in the dirt floor?

To be honest, I'm not sure on (nor am I interested in) the laws on it here. LOL.

As for dumpster diving: Often broken glass, rusty metal, chemicals that stink and stain. Sometimes workers' lunches. LOL.
