All brass except what appears to be an iron chisel type object. Maybe five inches long assembled, etched and painted all over and apparently old from the degree of tarnish. Any ideas on where this came from? I've seen one similar labeled from sri lanka though not as well made. And also would anyone have a guess as to age?
Might there have been some sort of rubber piece on the inside that was used to pressurize something or to use it as a vacuum chamber?
Just a thought.
Definitely a thought. I was just assuming it was a grinder for coffee pepper salt or even something more exotic like hash or whatever they used back then and there. Given it's size it seems more of a personal supply of something as opposed to enough for the group.
Well it kept me up all night and then some but it's a betel mortar and pestle. Not far off from what I assumed. It's a type of nut consumed in asia. Thanks for all the input and motivation
The hunt's the thing. Good work!
Betel box mortar for pounding betel and areca, formerly used by old women in (Tamilnadu) India. It is made using brass or white metal. Personally having few like in this in my collection.
See similar one used in Thailand at:

Age is 50 years or more.
That is fantastic information. Thank you so so much. The closest examples I've found have been sri lankan in origin. Sorry it took so long to give my thanks for your assistance everyone.
