So I went to the swap meet Sunday morning, and I found these red chalkware figurines. I don't know, what do you think, are they peddlers? What goes in the bowls? The funny thing is, I left the swap without them, then came back three or four hours later because, who am I kidding, I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't buy them. And they were still there, waiting for me! Thanks for looking.

Bonnie, I was thinking more like those round candles, of course just for display, as I don't think the paint on chalkware could handle the heat. :)

Well it looks like these were made by PGH Statuary, and that's all I know. :)
I bought two similar to these and matching lamps. We decided that the seated figures were bookends and had glass ashtray inserts. Fun!

Woow I just got taken back to my childhood on this. My Dad had a pair of now I believe chalkware statues on a mantle and it was a pair of men in turbans. Embarrassed to say but I learned later he acquired them unconventually from a restaurant. I had a southern Baptist mother from North Carolina and a gangster father from NYC.... welcome to my world. LoL) I'm so curious now about these statues and their turban meaning?? where they are from etc. middle eastern or african?? All I know is this just took me back to to childhood :) Ty.

Dragonflypearl, glad if these figurines brought back memories! I don't know anything about the significance of the turbans, I do know when I was researching them I came across quite an array of this type of exotic costume, especially around the 50s and 60s. A design trend from that era, I suppose. :)
