French Renaisance?

I inherited this 6 piece setting some years ago. I am ignorant to what when how it was produced, however I have been told that it is an original 6 piece turn of the century French renaissance period that is in its original condition and never before been restored. I am quite ignorant about antiques and would appreciate it very much if someone can enlighten me to how it is classified and its era it was produced. I was also told that the original is pig skin and it would be a big shame if I restored it in cloth and not its original. Thankyou for your help.
