Trying to determine maker of this chess set- 2.75 inch kings- bone/antler? Not sure of material but have a great weighted feel, felt pads on bottom. The dark pieces range from black to brown with streaks- goat horn maybe?
Nice pieces, makes me jealous.
I think I got lucky in purchasing them- I got them along with a Drueke board- they guy said they belonged to his deceased grandfather who traveled the world a good bit. He also said he remembered playing them with him about 20-25 years back when he was a teenager. For no more space than what they take up I would not have sold them. He said the king is 3 & 3/8" tall and it's base is 1& 1/8" in diameter. The pawn is 1 & 3/8" tall and it's base is 7/8" according to his email but not according to my ruler. He made no mention of what material other than "wood chess pieces" Each has subtle differences so I think they are possibly hand turned and pieces of art- proud to own them.
His actual description... Vintage DRUEKE MODEL 62 CHESS SET (board and pieces) Great condition!!! 18" board with box for pieces that have soft bottom so as not to scratch board. Color: Brown Material: Wood
Thanks- it is truly a beautiful set
