Hello- I love all the information kindly shared on this page! My family is from the Northwest, and this has been sitting in our cabin for 70 years. It's 6"x 7.5" I think it might be Quinault or Makah, but only from a hours worth of internet research. All and any details would be much appreciated and I would love to learn! Thanks!

I think this was made by a member of the Quinalt Nation. They are from Pacific Northwest, which makes sense because that is where you say your family is from. The Quinalt are a Southwestern Coast Salish people (from Wiki) and this basket looks very much like how they weaved their basketry. Your basket is also in very good condition, and the colors are okay too. I would ask that you keep it out of direct sunlight, you do not need to put it in a closet somewhere, just out of direct sunlight. Sunlight can dry the basket more and the colors will fade. Nice, thank you for putting it up for people to see and admire :)

Tlynnie, thank you so much for your reply! I have heeded your advice and carefully set it in a china cabinet out of the sun!
