I haven't purchased hardly any jewelry over the past few months. Today though I picked up this really nice little 2" brooch from Salvation. It appears to be stamped brass but it does have a very nice metallic ring to it when dropped on a hard surface almost like silver. Gold plated silver perhaps?? Seems a bit dark in color though for gold. It has a beautiful border with a single branch of Holly through the middle. The leaves and berries still have a faint wash of color to them. Not really all that Christmasy for some reason. In the Victorian language of flowers Holly represents defense, domestic happiness, as well as asking the question "Am I forgotten" ? I'm guesstimating that this is an old piece due to the clasp being so simple but I'll defer to the jewelry experts if I'm wrong. -Mike-

      Charming little brooch!
The 3d construction is pretty and the decor very nice :-)
I'd say brass and beginning of 20th :-)

This is so pretty! Brass has more of a "thud" than a "ring", I think.

Thanks Kyra and Bonnie :)...Guess I wasn't too far off the mark date wise Kyra. It has a definite ring and not a thud Bonnie. Like a silver coin. That's what has me wondering about the metal composition without a mark to verify it.

Well that's a pretty brooch, Mike, and yes, not Christmas-y like the more modern pieces. I hope you get to start seeing your nice pieces again, it's been a while, and I so enjoyed seeing what you posted! :)
