When I look at this bowl I think it could only be Japanese.
I am not good explaining this but it seems to have a very theatrical presence and for me looks like a prop for Kabuki, or a graphic for a Japanese comic or poster.

The beautifully deep yellow, punctuated by a rich red is eye catching enough, but they had to add more! The back of the bowl has been pressed to make deep angled grooves that give the bowl a fantastic geometric effect. It is also very tactile.

The bowl is not square or even symmetrical - it appears to us lop sided even.
Believe me, that would have been deliberate.

I love this one. So different, so Japanese.

    Roughly 22cm square (8.5in)

      Have fun there!
It does look like a dawn sun - or setting sun on a bushfire day!

Looks like something you'd see in the Japanese gangster movie TOKYO DRIFTER (1966), directed by Seijun Suzuki. GREAT PIECE, Karen. [;>)

Not to be confused with the newer U.S.A. car movie, Tokyo Drift.
