This 15 carat gold antique marquise ring I have just purchased from a estate sale as I thought it was so pretty.
It features a centrally set round faceted ruby and is accented with four oval old cut diamonds and has four oval cabachon opals that have good spectural colours of blue red and green.
I have taken the photos at night so they may not show how magnificent this ring auctually looks.

Ring has been cleaned by my jeweller and is as good as new !Good news is the opals have not shrunk !One of the claws had broken off and with dirt gathering in the area over the years gave the appearance of the opal shrinking.I have taken a photo of the ring after the clean.
Very pretty Victorian ring.
Thanks rucklczglass :)I think some shrinkage has taken place! Also believe they are prone to cracking but the Australian opals apparantly do not?
Thankyou Peasejean55:) I am pleased you like this sweet little ring.
Speaking of losing gems I had a ruby that fell out of its burnished setting and now it cannot be retreived unless it is cut open!
rucklcglass, I'm very interested to hear that opals shrink I never knew that. I have a ring on my site, I haven't yet seen it, but from the photos the opal does seem to be loose, I'm wondering now if the opal has shrunk and it is the original stone, and hasn't been replaced. I'll be getting the ring this weekend so it will be getting a good look at. Thank very much rucklcglass for this information.
Thank- you rucklczglass I did not know that opals shrink over time and now I can see why one of the opals appears to not quite fit in its setting.
Gorgeous ! love opals
