Any information on this clock would be much appreciated (i.e., style/name , approx date etc.) The clock measures approx. 15" at the base and approx. 17" tall. This clock appears to be missing a piece on the top of the clock - is this true? The brass works are made by: E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. out of Forestville Conn.
We'll need to at least see the entire case. Can you post one? Is the top missing?
From what I can see in your photos, I'm certain you have a clock designed by noted authority Tran Duy Ly as the Welch "Unknown No. 36" circa 1890. It is cataloged as clock number 1569 on page 494 of his reference book "Welch Clocks, 2nd Edition". His photo reference example is from the Stephen Whitley Collection. As you suspected, this model is supposed to have a tall, ornate patterned matching wooden top which as photographed is half the height of lower case...so by your measurements it would be around 8-9 inches tall and as wide as the lower case. The example shown in Ly's reference has a different stenciled pattern on the glass tablet but yours looks appropriate and original to me. That's all the information I could find.
