This was America's penny between 1856 and 1858. The 'Indian-head' penny was designed in '58 and began minting in '59, immediately altering design afterward for 1860.
I had one from '59 but gave it away as a gift last year to a man who shed his old collection.
Now I have a Flying Eagle, which I've wanted for a while. I'm not sure why, but the public didn't take to the design much, so the bird took flight just like the Large Cents before it.
This is an incredibly thick piece. I didn't know they were so thick. But that makes it all the more fun.
This one is fairly worn but in fair condition nonetheless.
great piece of American History!!
I swear, sometimes I think you refresh your page immediately after I've posted just to snap up the opportunity to love and comment before I've even gone back to CW proper. You're so fast! LOL.
Thanks, Sean. :P
I like this Eagle design compared to the Indian head.
LOL!!! Your very welcome Spiritbear!!! :)
CaperKid, I like 'em both. Both, to me, are beautiful.
Sean, :P
