The flea markets left much to be desired today - ugh. People brought all their crap and left the good stuff at home. The nice outdoor markets start this weekend, so I hope the pickins are better. I nearly had a gold ring for a song until the stall holder realized her error in placing it in the dish with the other not-so-valuable rings.

The Monet brooch is from the 1980s/1990s. There is a tiny bit of wear on the tips of two of the petals which can easily be put right. I have no clue about the purpose of the snake. I bought it for the beautiful enamel work.

    Thanks for looking/loving, CW friends.

I know your snake jewelry isn't Japanese, but in Japanese culture the snake represents wealth, so it's a good symbol, unlike Western cultures. Thought I'd just throw that out there. [;>)

Well then, yer sittin' pretty, aintcha?!!? My wife was born in the Year of the Snake, so she's set for life -- of course, though, that's off set totally by my confounded bad luck! We use a term in Japanese, BIMBO GAMI, which means "poor man's God". My wife always teases me that Bimbo Gami is riding on my shoulder. [;>))))

      Nevada, I was, too: 1953

Bimbo Gami - I love it......

      :-)))

Thanks, Ken! It's very well cast. I just need to give it a tweak or two.

      Lovely finds, General Bonnie!

The Monet brooch is very appealing :-)

If you apply the victorian symbolism, you have a pansy for "thinking of you" and a snake as "eternity" (even if not biting its tail...) -----> always thinking of you !

      I will ;-))

Aww, kyra, that's sweet! Do you have any idea what it was a part of? There are four small loops - one at the head, one at the bottom and two at the sides, then the two "prongs" going across. Did it hang from some sort of ribbon? Does it belong to a belt of some sort? No idea at all.

Uh, I had such a quick look I thought it was a brooch :-/
No idea, never seen this construction before!

My guess with those bars would have been that it was meant for a hat band, but with the bales, perhaps something more like a chest emblem inclusive of a sash? Part of a costume or uniform? Very nice enamel work, as you say. :)

Hi katherine - I had thought about a belt but didn't figure on how it could be attached. If I had one of those great 1920s/1930s hats then I could attach it. Would look great.
