One of a pair, an early Ebay buy 10 years ago.
Insects inlays made of stones and coral, in Shibayama technique, I never seen that on a stone base (always on ivory or boxwood).
Mount is base metal (pomponne?).
1.3/4" or 4.5cm diameter, crystalline structure very hard stone, suspect white jade :-)
It had a glued decor made of hard stones minutely carved, which had many lacks and damages!
This decor is rather younger than the box itself!
Seems 1920 on a 19th century box!
Of course, I repaired lacking insects, with white polymer irised clay and tiny opals :-)
Only intact was the coral Ladybird!
Wow very nice and unique style.
These are awesome Kyra...so unusual ! :)
Many thanks Caperkid for the wow, and the love :-)
Mike! You're awesome too :-))
Thank you!!!
Thank you Aura and Vetraio for loving the bzz bzz box ;-)
Thank you Junkman and Fortapache for your lovely visit!
LOVE the Lady Bug ("tento-mushi" in Japanese)! [;>)))
Lovely bugs. Do you think the shibayama was done later then to an earlier box?
Thank you Valentino! Love ya too :-)
Thank you Nevadablades for your nice comment and for the Japanese name for the bug :-))
Hi Karen! I think the shibayama is original to the box, circa 19th century, the flowers being added later, around 1920 :-)
Thank you for your interest, best, Pascale.
OK get it now. It is so fantastic. I am in awe and envy of all of your goodies.
Ooh, thank you Karen! I'm in awe too with all your beautiful Japanese glass collection! But happily I fight not to buy any big piece, nor glass, as a hoarder, I'd be submerged ;-)
Oooh, thank you all 20 lovers !
Hey, is your favourite Auntie Molly now Jeff Banks? Posts read the same....
Very special and beautiful, just wonder, why it's take you so long to share this wonderful box, all those insect, such a nice thematic you have kyra, love it.

Alan
Hi Alan! The two boxes having some issues, and beeing fragile, were in a cabinet.
At the time I wasn't so inventive for my repairs and forgot about them :-)
Thank you for loving my bugs and the box :-)
Many thanks for your loves, Anna, Lisa and Melanie!
