These crucifixes were made in many sizes to accommodate Small and large Rosaries. They were also hung by strings/necklaces by monks and brothers in the Catholic Church. We have one that is approximately 6" long and it is decorated exactly like this one. They were relatively inexpensive and smaller ones were given to students in religious classes as awards for learning their catechism. They were made of a Zinc alloy with a hard dark wood inlay and date from the 1800's till the mid 1900's. RER
Thank you for the information it is very interesting. I will pass it on to my sister.
I think my mom has one that is almost identical to this! Didn't realize it was so old!
We were had Grey Nuns teaching us when we were in elementary school and they were the larger crucifixes like these in their sashes/belts. RER
