I am pretty sure this is Alabaster but I don't know if this is considered a jewelry box, but I think it very simple and pretty.

Hi there, this is Murano art glass and make in Italy. If you look under my posts you will see something similar. I am on an i-pad here right now
Sorry It reminded me of some Murano Art Glass items. Here is what I mean for example:

Maybe ??? at one time it had silk material in it?? I am just throwing that out there:

I have something in the same shape ( no metal or little handle ) but I guess I did not post it here on CW, as I did not find it -- So I will post it here in a Few minutes just to show you the shape of mine. Mine appears to be Opaline Glass, but I do not have a Positive ID either ....yet
No, Rose, not glass nor opaline! Ashttp://www.ebay.ie/itm/Green-Onyx-Cerri-Nestore-Volterra-Smokers-Set-Cigarette-Box-Ashtrays-1950s-/391331642384inscribed on the label "Cerri Nestore alabastri, Volterra"
Not a jewellery box, too deep for that use!
Found a smomer set from same maker,
Well thanks for all the info I appreciate it.
Kyra -Please would you check your link, it doesn't work for me, and every time I try to copy it leaving off the As, my cursor gets a life of its own!
Ha, here is a more appropriate with same box shape, from same maker:
