    Hi CW Gang:

    Thought I would post this as I had for years. Linda neat old Tray made via Paper Mache. On the back it is marked:

    Alcohol Proof
    Made in Japan

    No makers mark other than what is said at the back -- but I did find some vintage trays like this with a maker name of "Highmount Alcohol Proof Made In Japan" Pretty sure this is made by the same company as those. Love it!!

    Some other Trays like this:

    Thanks for LOOKING // LOVING !!!!

      What a beauty, Rose! I love Asian lacquerware, so pretty and well made. What do you suppose Alcohol Proof means?

      @katherinescollections -- Good Question!

      I personally think ( and I may be wrong ) that isn't paper mache made ( coated) with a type of shellac or something ? So if you made or coated a Tray with this and then spilled ALCOHOL on it...and the Alcohol then ate through the Shellac, your tray would be useless.......LOL.

      So I am thinking it means the shellac or whatever they use will NOT be affected by any spilled/wet Alcohol. I think...............????

      @katherinescollections -- see above post....yeah, you would not want a flimsy tray to hold booze.

      ~ Funny thing about this tray. I bought it like 10 years ago for very little and had it just sitting with some of my glass decanters on it. I had never research it till now when I was going to post -- so within a matter of 15 minutes I had figured it out.

      So a Big Thank you for GOOGLE and the INTERNET world as you make looking for things SO MUCH easier !!!

      Yes, you're probably right, Rose. Some shellacs may have been more easily ruined by alcohol, but this one may have been varnished with something tougher. Very pretty tray! :)
