This vase is in the same shape as the one John posted four months ago. The decoration is the same, with a few minor differences; the gilt decoration in the brown fields is different, mine has a pink opal lining, and it has an English registry number printed on it - Rd 76057. I sent for the records for Rd 76057 from the National Archives in England, and they sent me the documentation, along with a photo of the pattern being registered. The company that registered the design in England is Wittman & Roth, an importer. This research is the subject of an article posted on Loetz.com, and a link is provided at the end of this paragraph. It is interesting to note that the pattern in the English registry (including the gilding) matches John's vase precisely. His vase is marked with a different mark (Pat. 9159). Exhaustive searches of the world's patent databases haven't turned up anything on this number yet, but it is clear to me that Patent 9159 and Rd 76057 refer to essentially the same thing. Patent 9159 has been found on both the regular Octopus and Victoria varieties of this glass. The only difference between Octopus and Victoria is that the latter has a more elaborate paint job - the glass and the air-trap patterns are exactly the same.

love this example... I have many colors and shapes documented but this is the darkest brown I have (borrowed) for my pic collection; )

also the decor looks primitive, can we assume the maker of the vase also did the decor? or is it plausible that other companies maybe in other countries decorated them too
