    Hello,

I am trying to find as much as I can about this painting that I found at my local Goodwill. I am not sure the value if any, It has been reframed it appears by Aaron Brothers paper protective backing and someone has ripped the paper in various areas but canvas appears fine. The measurement is 27 x 39 complete painting with frame. Please, any information and value is appreciated. There are areas that are lumpy from the paint as well. Is it possible for anyone to scan an email picture and get information that way without the actual painting in front of them? Curious Thank you for your help.

Thank you Dizzydave :). It looks similar to this painting, not exactly the same. I wonder if that matters or could it be a reproduction? I was wondering the differences between the father (Manuel Munoz Merida) and his son's(Manuel Munoz Ruiz) oil paintings.

You can tell it's Ruiz. He painted many of these just from different angles. It's not a repro, it's original oil. I would say taking size in est. 1000.00 to 1500.00.

Hi Dizzydave, that's fantastic news. Thank you!! How were you able to gather this information? The painting is really beautiful I wonder why there's so little information about it. If I decided to sell, where do I begin?

Thank you. I just spoke with Ana Ruiz and she just revealed to me that her father is Manuel Ruiz isn't the artist but Merida is. And there are 2 Ruiz's One had an art museum, don't know which one there's Manuel Munoz Merida and Manuel Munoz Ruiz and actually 3 Manuel Ruiz. My quest. :).

Yep, same Artist in link to eBay I posted. Same subject matter, same signature. The likelihood of the elder and younger painting the same scene would be very unlikely.

If you are still looking for info... I'll tell you that some people are mixing up Manuel Merida Munoz ( this painter) with his son Manuel Merida Ruiz. I have the biography from the painting I bought in the 70's when he still lived in the Market area of Los Angeles around Olvera Street. I remember that his address was a numbered street around there, 3rd or 7th or some such.
I bought one of these for my Sister at the Beverly Hills Gallery which had a location at the Sears store in Northridge mall at the time and later she and my mother surprised me with a brand new one after he painted a new series which is 24 x 48 in size of several wagons, mountains, people as they lowered the wagons down a cliff. It was seemingly a favorite theme of his. The brochure has several black and white pics of his paintings, one nude, one spanish cit horses and a cowboy , mountain landscape, palete knife pic of flowers ( have seen several and my sister has one), more wagons and spanish street scent. There is also a photo of him working on the nude painting. The biography is written in somewhat broken English as it was not evidently his, or his writer first language. I love his work.

      Hi Tommybrock,
Thanks for the information. I still have the painting and the one that you’re talking about is from the son or the father? Also can you send me a copy of the brochure, would love to read it and a picture of his latest painting? I am intrigued. Thank you for helping me out with this one.

Has anyone here ever heard of Manuel Munoz Mérida painting in black, white and brown on board rather than canvas? It’s a large painting that is around 24”x38.”

It is clearly the same signature and the paint is thin, doesn’t protrude too much, and is in a similar style to his canvass paintings with exact buildings as in a couple of his other paintings. The paint is very glossy as well.

So, extremely similar content and painting style, other than color. Similar size to his large paintings, but on board as opposed to canvas. Very clearly live paint on board and very clearly a live painted signature.

Maybe a more modern painting of his?
