I love old Australian gold! This is one of the pieces from my collection that started 10 years ago. It was made by Taylor & Sharp in Hobart who were active 1895- post ww2. Not really sure of the age..... Edwardian perhaps? but quite a dainty pendant.
Very sweet!
Wow - a really lovely piece of Australian jewellery.
It`s old. Pearls are well set with sharp chisel like instrument which is pushed over the surface to create small prongs. Look under higher magnification and you will see ``how it`s done``. Pearls are seldom set like this today, except in the best jewelry - it`s much easier just to use resin or glue to fix them.
Tassiedevil-so beautiful I love the map:)and the hammer set pearls.I think the T & S on my pendant looks just like the initials on your brooch!I will try researching my brooches maker but my internet research skills are poor to say the least!:(
Thank you Efesgirl for your comment and love.
Thanks very much racer4four for your comment and love, it really is a special little piece!
Hello IVAN49, Thank you! Always good to be able to add a new tip for researching. Really appreciate your comment.
Hello BettyBoo, Thank you! Australian jewellery is not easy to research I find.....I have spent many hours in the library searching through reference books and taking photos of maker's marks and any other information that might come in handy. I now have a wonderful book on 19th and early 20th century Australian jewellery by Anne Schofield & Kevin Fahy. Was lucky to pick this one up on Ebay...they don't come up very often. Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks aura for loving my pendant!
Hello Tassiedevil:) I find the library can often be a far better research resource than the internet. However I have been very lazy of late and have used the internet for most of my searching with poor results!
