My husband found this little Asian "cup" diving in San Diego harbor. It's small at 2 1/2" diameter. A little indent on the inside rim...Purposely put there prior to glazing .6.5 cm wide on the top, 3.5 cm bottom and 4 cm tall. The hard crust is remnants of the barnacles/oysters that were scraped off after recovery from 40 feet of Seawater in a layer deeper than 2 Milk Bottles recovered that date to 1924 and 1912 respectively...So following the principle of horizontality this SHOULD date earlier than 1912..
The print on it is a transfer print, not hand painted....then it was glazed and then the little brown dots in between the print were hand painted on and re-glazed...So a double glazed vessel, no makers marks....and the inside is devoid of glaze for the most part.
ANY help/guidance in identification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks olebodie. We like to treasure hunt, too. He's taking an archeology class and would like to identify and find out the purpose of the little notch on the inside. He would like to help you identify that native American Stone tool also, since he is learning about those kinds of tools.

He found a few old milk bottles above this one that are dated above, and a few other old pieces most not complete. He researched and wrote a paper on the milk bottles and corresponding company. Yes, we have been metal detecting: he found some good coins. I found 1,000 nails and bottle caps. ha ha!
