I bought this ring (at a market) because of the green coloured stone. The seller said it is a green sapphire..... I don't have a clue..... so hopefully someone out there will know!
I didn't realize till I got home that it was Russian rose gold and found that 583 is 14K. I hope someone can help with dating this ring....had a quick look at Russian hallmarks!!!! omg!!! way beyond my research skills!!
Either way, it is beautiful I think, fits me perfectly and was cheap...what more could you ask for!
Thanks for looking
Regards, Judy
Very pretty ring!
Russian and Soviet Gold Hallmarks
Hallmark representing the government inspection stamp changed through the years, while the gold purity hallmarks remained nearly the same up until the collapse of the USSR. From 1927 to 1959 the government inspection hallmark was a male (worker's) head with a hat, under which was a hammer (this mark would then have a mark like "583" next to it).
****From 1959 to 1992 the government inspection hallmark changed to a five-point star with the hammer and sickle inside it.****
Thanks efesgirl, glad you like it...such wonderful information is really appreciated, thank you!
It`s Yerevan assay office (now in Armenia). The mark was used since 1958 and the stone is Demantoid Garnett from the Urals.

Btw. stones are never set in rose or yellow gold because they lose their natural color. Therefore, the setting, prongs, claws etc are always made of white gold if you are dealing with serious jewelers.
IVAN49, oh my goodness! ! I am so excited! Thank you so much! I had looked through just about every green stone on google and was secretly hoping it would be one of those Demantoid Garnets. Thank you for the assay office and date as well.....this is just wonderful, and I did not know about the white gold setting either! So pleased that you were willing and able to share your knowledge with me. Kind regards Judy
