This is my today's charity shop find and I'm intrigued by the stones of this necklace. I haven't got a clue what kind of stone it is. It has got a nice iridescence comparable to a mother of pearl - sadly I can't capture it well. The pictures don't do justice. The beads looks like layered pebbles. Especially the brown bits are iridescent. I think it is vintage because of the style. It has a spring clasp and a metal between the beads is common. I found one very similar necklace on the net, but the stones weren't identified either. I appreciate any suggestions. I don't think it is a labradorite, it looks different.
I think there is a stone or rock category, too. Put it in there, too.
Beautiful stones, Marti. Good catch. [;>)
Rainbow obsidian?
Very interesting, no doubt that it is a stone :-)
Ah... or perhaps black mother of pearl?
Thank you folks for your loves/comments!!!
Kyra it must be a stone, it's cold on touch and it has a bit of weight. I think mother of pearl would be more light. Not many stones are iridescent, so we should find out soon... :)
If you didn't say they were heavy, I would swear they were shells, not stones. Hope you find out what they are and keep us posted!
I did a better research and realised I was wrong :P
Now I think it is mother of pearl. Kyratango and Davyd286, you were right. It was just hard for me to believe mother of pearl pieces can be so thick. Now I feel very thick, lol
Lol Martika!
Hi again Martika. This is lovely. I'd never have thought it was mother of pearl either, but then I know nothing. I see you have quite a bit of costume jewelly posted, I wonder would you have a quick look at my two recent posts :) it's an area I've just started to be interested in, but basically know nothing about.
