So a usual Friday afternoon - a quiet 30 mins - and I'm scouring European ebay sites... and I found these! Buy it now or best offer, being sold, it seems from a re-claimed, and fine furniture outlet in Northern France, and offering no international postage.
I asked if they would ship to England and they said yes although the postage was a little expensive at £35 ($50) considering they were only coming over the Channel and not the Atlantic!
So price settled, I just needed to negotiate a good deal, and quickly, before they were spotted by anyone else and recognised for what they were. We duly did the deal and they were mine at a 'steal'. I was a very happy man!
I have always admired Kralik's cased-powder decor and always wanted one. I would have been happy with a small 5" simple vase or bowl, but to land not one but a pair of these pretty rare classic ribbed pieces was something else.
I did question the seller about whether there was any damage on several occasions, but he did not respond so I was on a wing and a prayer just hoping A) that there was no damage and B) that my £35 investment in shipping costs included good packaging. I need not have worried, packaging was absolutely incredible and once liberated of cardboard, polystyrene and bubble-wrap, they were perfect and a lot more robust in weight and thickness of glass than I had anticipated.
They stand 30cm (12") tall, weigh in at 1kg (2.2lb) each and are exquisitely made. There's a lot going on here. There seems to be a very fine glittery mica in the glass, it may be common to cased powder pieces, but as these are the only pieces I have, I wouldn't know if that would be expected in this decor.... I tried to photograph it in pic 4.
DROP DEAD GORGEOUS !!! !!!! !!!
very nice score...
Fantastic, I bought one years ago in this same decor and a month later the dealer was selling a second one- so these shapes obviously look better pairs. I've only seen two more decors in this shape: red and black powder and light semi opaque blue with a crystal aqua donut... Fantastic grab!!
did you just sell me one? I love it!!
I did Jericho - I was going to pop in a little message but I had so much difficulty packing and keeping the weight down I just plain forgot. I assume it must have arrived safely, I was a bit nervous that I hadn't double boxed it. I've had a bit of bad luck lately with 3 kralik pieces arriving broken or not at all from Europe, so I'm hoping that '3' has broken my cycle of bad luck.
I don't normally keep pairs so mine is not going anywhere. Glad to know its twin is in safe hands!!!!
