So another french purchase at a very reasonable price. However when I got the vase from the seller (the ad only showed one shot from one of the 'good' sides) the bottom of one of the handles was missing it's distinctive 'trail'. I wasn't particularly happy and said that I wanted to return it. The seller just refunded my payment and postage and 'didn't want it back'!!
So a Loetz vase for free - now I was happy to keep it!
It's interesting to note that many of these vases for sale on auction sites appear to be damaged in this way, in fact many are sold without the 'trail' on all 3 handles, which in my opinion is a obvious and distinctive design feature of these pieces. When you examine these vases it is easy to see that this finishing flourish is inherently fragile and can be easily damaged.
When there are damaged pieces out there being offered at prices between £200-£400, I'm comforted to know that mine, which is 66.66% perfect was acquired for 'sweet fanny adams!!'
this is so great and modern design!!! for the age it is...
Lots of Character - ---- Yet so Clear and Concise
I covert this
!
Did you pay a fortune do you mind me asking? I still can't get one at a decent price ?
Hi Anne - no i didn't I paid a mere £52.00 - it was poorly described, no mention in the description of Tango or Loetz or any other noun we collectors look for - it was on ebay.fr.
And as I say, because I wanted to return it because it was less than perfect, the seller just refunded me and didn't want it back, so FREE in the end!
Can you email me my name @ gmail.com pls ... Thanks. Will pick it up tomorrow as falling asleep. You've got some awesome stuff
Not sure you meant to send that post to me Anne - you're a long way from the UK??
ok, this might sound crazy but you might want to look for horizontal cracks running across the edges of the tips, if you see them you can chip them off with a little finger nail push. this makes the handles look more equal. in the earlier versions of these vases the tips were more horrizontal and not so pointed. The factory made these so quick that sometimes you can see a scratch where the tool stretched the handle (near the base0. I do think you got a great deal on this beauty
Yep - sounds crazy - but I'm going to look see all the same - interesting...!
