Loetz Titania glass was launched with success as a novelty in 1905. In 1908, it was described in a German arts journal as "old Tiffany". It comes in several color combinations, but according to Loetz Bohemian Glass 1880-1940 (Cantz), the combination of orange-opal with leaf green was the most successful. This is a nice example of Titania Genre 2534 in orange-opal and leaf green, characterized by its horizontal waves of silvery threads over the spreading layer of leaf green. The orange-opal ground peeks through, evoking the image of a smoldering fireball. The paperweight technique is completed by encasing the whole in a layer of colorless glass.
