    This is likely a late Victorian souvenir shell; shells were popular in that period (hence your Loetz shells).

    It was made for Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

    I had to fix the gold on the branch of coral, otherwise it was done fairly well for a cheap item.

    My mom thinks it was used as a ash tray. I see no evidence of that on this one.
