    Came across this desk in my father-in-law's garage. He believes it belonged to his grandmother (St. Louis area) but not certain. A lot of compartments inside and love the old key to unlock it. Would appreciate any information you may have about it (age, maker, etc.). The marking on the back says "811-1/2-MHG & Other HWD" (assuming mahogany). Thank you.

      Would be my guess as well, "Mahogany & other hardwood". Hard to tell the age. Has a late 1800s feel to it, claw feet and all, but less ornamented than typical for that age. If that spray paint marming is from the time of manufacturing a lot younger though..

      Your desk looks like a 20th century piece.

      A posting showing the drawer joint may be helpful to confirm.
