    Grandson

I received this clock from my grandparents after they passed. I am not sure what kind it is or how old it is. They owned it for 50 years prior to me and purchased it somewhere in Europe. It works perfect and keeps excellent time. The top portion is separate and sits on top of the base and glass housing. The chains, weights, etc go through the opening under the base. It has beautiful inlay and designs. It has a glass door on the face and on the base. I believe it my be a replica of an older french design but I am not sure. It stands just under 6 feet tall. Any thoughts?

Turn it around and open the back door. Take quality pics of the movement and any ID or names or logos. Without more info we can only tell you it is a clock.

Almost looks like a spring-driven mantel clock which was converted into a tall case weight-driven clock. I've never seen anything like it. If collectors here can't help, try posting it on the NAWCC's General Clocks Message Board Forum. Try doing what slackjack has suggested first, then go to: http://mb.nawcc.org/forumdisplay.php?9-Clocks-General . Good luck and thanks for sharing your heirloom with us.

The top part of the clock is in the style of a French Boulle Clock.

@ Bruce99 - thank you for commenting and sharing the style which I was completely unaware of. I will continue to do my research. Hopefully I can solve this puzzle.

cant help with info,..but its a spectacular piece,...not subtle but AWESOME!! looks like something captain Nemo would own,..couldn't see anything like it anywhere ,..cept this one as a possible ancestor looks like a hybrid Boulle regulator if that is a thing,..long throw pendulum ,..real neat thing,..never get rid of it hehehe http://www.icollector.com/An-Important-French-Boulle-Regulator-Clock_i6043597
