This belonged to my fiance's step mom, she was going to leave it behind during a move/ clean out, when she told us we could have it. She purchased it at an estate sale well over 60 years ago, and said it was a set of lamps in which one was broken. Her memory is failing unfortunately, but she did come here (U.S.), from England. I've done so much research, as I really admire this piece. Two antique dealers both agree that it must be European, and maybe some sort of mystical piece. There is a castle being protected by what appears to be griffins on one side with a pink sky, and some sort of building on the other side with a blueish sky, also appears that it's being protected by griffins. The fish appear to be coi maybe?? And a monkey face under each gold painted handle. Any information would be great!!The piece stands 14"H x 10" Handle to Handle across. It is signed on the bottom but I can't make it out.

That's interesting, I wonder how old it is. She said they came as a pair of lamps but I'm just wondering if someone made them into lamps. The antique dealer offered me $50. But I told her I just wanted info. Thankyou so much
It looks like some oriental writing, many people drilled bottom for lamps. "Shame" but common for era. Pre WW2. I wouldn't sell for 50.00, to nice.
I agree, it is a cool piece. I'll just keep it in my curio, as a show piece. To think it almost got discarded. Thanks
