I have had several people look at this and no-one so far seems to know for sure what it is. All I ever hear is that it is primitive. If anyone can clarify please let me know.
Anyone know what this is? | ||

This is a generally called a kyusu, or Japanese teapot, specifically a yokode kyusu, a Japanese teapot with a side handle, used for brewing green tea.
The design for the side handle was adapted from a similar style Chinese pot, used for preparing medicinal herbs. You don't mention the size, but if it is considerably larger than a typical tea pot, it is more likely the Chinese herb pot. They are usually larger, to contain the larger quantity of medicinal herbs often needed.
Thanks to Racer4four and Canyon Road the mystery has been solved..thank you so much!!
