Hello everyone
This one is a bit of a mystery!!!
It was listed as a doll's ring which tested 14-15ct gold with amethyst.
As you can see from the pictures it is very, very small. The setting kind of looks like some of the georgian settings to me, and it is a closed back.....but I am probably wrong!
Also the shank has a strange cut out piece on one side....no idea why!
Was this ring actually a ring to start it's life or something else do you think?
How old is it likely to be, and what sort of doll would have such a ring?
It seems to be too well made to be "junk"...... I think it is adorable, and wear it on a chain.
Would love to hear all your thoughts on this one please.
Must say that beautiful ring is a real mystery for me!
If the cut out shank is a resizing, strange to have been done on one side only!
For the age, the closed bezel with these kind of "prongs" is indicative of Georgian era.
Perhaps a doll collector will have informations about doll's jewelry...
Hi kyratango, thanks for your thoughts...... it is a tricky little devil isn't it. Babies these days would not wear rings like this.....too dangerous, but perhaps back in the day they did? Who knows!!! Maybe the cut out piece was there so that when they outgrew it, it would be easier to cut through.
At least I must be retaining some of the information research I have done over the years to remember the Georgian setting!! Happy with that lol.
Hi have to agree with kyra, the style does look typically Georgian, it's lovely.

The above link shows three or four children's (babies?) rings, further down the page. I think TassieDevil may be correct about the cut out piece making it easier to cut through as the child grew.
I did notice though that the rings shown in are all 'flat', not prong settings that could scratch.
Manikin would know if they made rings for dolls with this kind of quality.

Hello Peasejean55, thank you, so tiny isn't it.... I love Georgian....especially Stuart Crystal!!
Hi Gillian, thanks for your thoughts and the link to Morning Glory....what a terrific site!! I have had this ring for over a year and last night as I was typing was the first time it had occurred to me about cutting the ring off!!!
For some reason CW has removed the listing from the doll category???
Thanks kyratango for the link, and as Gillian said, we do learn something new every day!
