      It is a BEAUTY!
Looks like cameo carved Peking glass, and the blade having a japanese shape (Nevada!!! help needed!!!), I'm thinking Asian :-)
      Nothing best than damascus :-D

Ha, correct name is Peking glass overlay!

kyratango >>> You give me too much credit ~ I'm really just a weekend gardener in comparison to other knife aficionados here on CW. But thank you for your vote of confidence.

I only know a little bit of history on Damascus steel blades from what I've read on the internet, but as far as aging a particular knife or determining where it was made (country), if the knife has no maker's mark or country of origin on it, then I'd be just taking a wild guess and probably steer everyone in the wrong direction! [;>)))

Oh, Nevada, I was thinking you would recognise the shape of the blade which makes me feel it Japanese :-)

kyratango >>> Well now, I know a little bit about Japanese knives, enough to venture and say that this knife is probably not made in Japan. I've never known the Japanese to make Damascus blades (too much pride and belief in their own Japanese blades), and every knife made in Japan that I've ever seen had JAPAN etched on the blade. I don't think this knife here has any marks, does it??? [;>)

What? Old Japanese blades weren't damascus????

Tango >>> Not to my knowledge, but then again, I'm just a weekend amateur with limited knowledge (and capacity for learning!), so there's more than a good likelihood that everything I've said up to now is 100% wrong. Anyone else like to weigh in? If nothing else, I'm persuadable. [;>)

I've met the guy i've got it from and asked him...
He told me he bought the handle on a fleamarket in paris several years ago and added the blade later.... who knows though?
