Welcome on CW! You are right - it's very cool. I never seen anything like this.
I think the hands were added later. What does the back look like? Are they added on?
No they weren't added later. I found this signature on the back inside of the leg...
Pedro Friedeberg
Ooo, google his name!!! You have got something interesting!!!
Wow -- give the man a hand!

I've emailed him to see if it is authentic. I can't wait to see if it is. How else can I figure if out if he doesn't answer.
See with Sotheby's experts in case...
This is absolutely stunning art.
Lchostetler, do you mean the writer of the blog, Don Shoemaker? Make sure you send him a picture of the signature as well!
If you live near a city with an well-known, reputable auction house you can take it there, too for authentication & appraisal.
WOW - ANOTHER thing I need to keep an eye out for! Hand furniture and hidden signatures! AWESOME find! Crazy thing is - I would have bought it too! I LOVE chairs!
Let us know what you find out!
My guess is - it's totally authentic. Look at the tiny feet!
He's still alive @80 and you can contact him directly!

Here's the page with the email link for authentication on this page. From the page:
"Please be advised that I consider all art that does not possess my signature to be a forgery.
During the last 50 years, all of my painting, sculpture, drawings, multiple originals and objects have been signed. A large percentage of my work is also accompanied by a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity.
If you own a piece attributed to Pedro Friedeberg that is not signed, please bring this to my attention. Please send an image, the size of the work, and the provenance.
Sincerely,
Pedro Friedeberg"

Yup I contacted him this past week and haven't heard back @celine so I'm just waiting to see. I'm in Phoenix az so not sure where I could take it. I did compare the signatures today. I think it's authentic!!!
Anybody know where I can take it in Phoenix if I don't hear back from him??
Here's a pic of the signature on the chair.
I'd try here: Standford Auctions.

Here are signature examples. The R in Pedro looks correct.

Thank you @Celine...I am going to take it in to an auctioneer this week and email Mr. Freideberg again to gain authenticity. Then I have to make the decision as to whether to restore and keep or sell it and go travel...;)
