I've never seen one like this before when I came across it at a garage sale. It was so unusual that I bought it. It has a very decorative "lid" with 3 drawers of varying sizes that sit in the upper portion of the trunk. It's quite heavy and large 36"L x 21"W x 24" D. The side handles are missing, but the hardware seems to all be intact & original. It's very ornate! Stamped WC Farel Buffalo New York Patented March 1, 1887 on lid and has a highly detailed, beautiful cat face painting. There were mothballs & I have no idea of how to get that smell out! I've tried googling, but very little information is available.

These are a rare trunk -- and great that you have the interior compartments. In my "collection of trunks journey" I came across this exact trunk as did another contributor on this site -- I sold mine so I took it off my post. I refinished mine as the canvas was too far gone to rescue. It's a beautiful trunk and yours is in great shape -- a great find!!!

Thank you Mr. Trunkman for your reply. Any idea how to get the mothball smell out of the trunk other than keeping it open to air out?

      Thanks again :)

Ah! Really neat. Found two in my attic that belonged to the original homeowner. (They both have his initials on the lid.) I used one as a (protected) coffee table for a time. I'll have to check out who the maker is; although the trunks were found in my 1900-built home-which is in Buffalo-I'm not sure who the maker is.

Several methods are helpful -- I usually throw in a couple of dryer sheets to help the cause.

A bar of Ivory soap left in the inside sure does wonders to that moth ball smell.
      wonderful trunk find.

Thank you Drill I will try this as the smell of the trunk is over powering.
