My friend ran across this in a bin at a GoodWill outlet store in Indianapolis. We have been trying to find anyone who may have information about this picture. I think it definitely tells a story. I see the tree of life possibly, Olive tree, a palm tree which indicates warm climate, a camel. Not sure what the buildings are, but they seem to be middle eastern. I thought maybe this was something from Israel perhaps? There are no tags on it at all. Any help will be appreciated!! Thanks so much!
It's a contemporary souvenir pictorial rug from Egypt.
Don't try to read too much of a story from it. The weaver wanted to weave something that would attract a buyer, so put in symbols that she though might do the job. It evidently did. At least two buyers stepped up.
And if it's offered for sale again, I'm sure a folk art collector will recognize the charm of the piece. Love the pigeon-toed camel with the strange little hump, and those two buildings hovering in the trees!
