When I saw this at Salvation Army this morning I thought what a nice candle holder, but it looked kind of big for one candle. It's about 6" tall and the base is 6.5 " in diameter Beautiful engraving almost "art nouveau" in style. A quick online search ID'd it as a bell shaped "Hooka" base. Most likely from India and made of brass. It is a bit too silver in color though with just a slight gold tinge. The bottom is rather thin and looks heat scorched. There's a tiny pin hole in the middle too. So basically what I know about hooka's you could put on a head of a pin but there you go. There is a tell tale mark on the bottom that looks like look hindi script. What I'm seeing online indicates late 19th or very early 20th century so that's pretty cool. -Mike-
A great find! I'd say 1800s.
