Circa 1841-1859 (according to one site that seemed to know the subject in question quite well [all the others were just sellers claiming everything from 1830 to 1860]) flow blue "Chapoo" theme bowl by J. Wedgwood of England.

Another thrift shop find, and now my oldest.

Chapoo, now called Zhapu, in 1842 was a city involved in the Chinese Opium Wars.

Yours is in immaculate condition, it seems.

Mine shows its age. I saw it and went right to it, certain it was about 1850s.

Thankyou spirit , mine does show age but being it is white . its hard to show!!

I would say yours is about 1840-1842

It's like my mom: Refuses to show her age. :P

Why do you think mine is from that early, short period?
    5. SEAN68 SEAN68, 9 years ago
im thinking that, but I could be wrong!!
    6. SpiritBear, 9 years ago
But why that very short/specific period?

He did die in 1844. it could be before that.

Carl Tielsch died in the 1800s, yet his company named after him continued on for many decades. ;)

The Flow Blue is so pretty! There would have been a matching pitcher.

      Thank you, Efes Girl.

The pitcher is much scarcer. The bowl is only a little less common than the plate. There seems to have been a tray and saucers, too.

I almost didn't go to the thrift store, either, as it usually had little of interest. I was so surprised.
